Monthly Favorites – March

All Monthly Favorites

Yaaay, my first attempt at creating a Monthly Favorites post!!! Please don’t die of boredom you guys! I made a pretty collage and everything!
Turns out it’s quite difficult to find interesting favorites that people would actually find interesting, when your life revolves around things that most people don’t even like! I tried keeping the Japanese stuff to minimum, but since I have an unhealthy obsession with it, the word minimum has been widely stretched and given a whole new meaning…. O_o

Favorite Thrift Find

Starting off with my new Homer Simpson tee which I snatched from another Bulgarian second hand store called “Drehata”. The Simpsons is one of the things that has helped me through some difficult, shitty times, so this t-shirt is the salt on my steak! Someday I would love to find a Moe t-shirt, as he’s one of my favorite characters.
The Demon- Haunted World

I needed only one peek at Carl Sagan’s notorious Cosmos series, to immediately become a fangirl! Needless to say, this book is one of my March Favorites. Debunking superstition, religion and pseudoscience, this is 400 pages of pure awesome! Even if you stubbornly believe that aliens kidnapped your grandma 15 years ago, this book would undoubtedly give you some food for thought and in the most gentle manner possible. Would you rather acknowledge the cold truth or live with the convenient illusion?

Kikujiro No Natsu

I’ve been trying to upgrade my Japanese listening skills and I found that the best way was to watch some good Japanese movies (besides watching Anime, during which I don’t have the slightest idea what they’re saying).

Kikujiro No Natsu” (Kikujiro’s Summer) basically tells the story of a young boy who goes on a journey to find his mother that has abandoned him. Yup, sounds boring as fuck, but don’t let the premise fool you, this is no ordinary Hollywood mush, there’s no cheesy ending either! In fact, it’s safe to say nothing significant happens throughout the whole movie, but that’s the beauty of it. It’s fun, enlightening, delightful. Plus, the kid is the only child actor, that doesn’t make me want to strangle it with its own intestines!

Spido Masta!

This is one of those helpful books that I want to hug and drown in drool! It’s basically a collection of 1800 words you need for the Language Proficiency Test, alongside with some example sentences. It has an audio CD in it, so you can hear what the words sound like.
I got mine second hand, but you can find it on Amazon too!
What I love about it is that’s it’s super cute, fancy and has a very cool red thingy, which you can use to hide the translations of the words and test yourself.
This is so high tech, I had a mini orgasm when I saw it! すごい!!! *_*

Favorite Photo

This is a favorite, not because I made it, obviously, but because I can’t believe my fat cat can fit in this tiny box!

In Flames

And last but not least, March’s favorite song: “In Flames – Only for the Weak”! I’ll be giving away my soul to anyone who genuinely likes this song!

So that’s it for today’s post, I really hope you didn’t die of boredom! Let me know which is your absolute March favorite, ok? ^_^

  1. I've been toying with the idea of this kind of post too. Well done! Although aliens really did kidnap my grandma and I know in my heart it was God's plan because his ways are mysterious, I would love the Carl Sagan book to add to my library of atheist manifests and general anti-theism Thanks for the tip! My son tells me he has picked up a smattering of Japanese from watching anime. I will tell him to try Japanese movies. So Carl Sagan and your cat are definitely my favourites here. The song, well I can't say I like it, but I am capable of tolerating it and even being mildly amused by it. I've lived through head banging acid rock, punk, disco, new wave, pop, rap, whatever the hell Beyonce is, and even endured three years of country music when I had to. I'm a a little disappointed that I don't get to have your soul, but I'll keep trying.

  2. ah, what! the gif of the red going over the letters like that is so… that really is high-tech. Super clever, man! I think this is a neat post so don'tchu worry about it not being some kinda tradtional outfit post, Keit! Gotta stray from the usual sometime. 😀

  3. Yeah I'm definitely going to have to read that book soon. I added it to my Goodreads to-read list! I've been absolutely loving the Cosmos reboot that's playing now. So so good!

  4. All the Japanese learning things look so useful. I'm taking Japanese classes at the moment, although I've only done about 7 months so far so I'm not as advanced as you. Learning kanji is such an intimidating task. I watch anime to help me practice and get so excited when I understand a bit. Really need to be better at practicing in my spare time though!

Thanks for the lovely comments you left one my blog. They were really helpful to me Let me know if you read any of the London books! And Terry Pratchett is definitely always a good join. I'm a big fan of his Death books, but Nightwatch is probably one of the best too.

  5. I don't think I will ever be patient enough to learn a 4th language. I love Japanese movies, that has been on my watch list for a while now.. and even I would love a Moe t-shirt!

  6. this post being boring?! oh no, don't you even worry about that! I personally love seeing/reading those favourites from my fave bloggers, doesn't even matter what kind of favourites, haha. your cat in the box is adorable and that Homer tee is pretty fierce (we have one Estonian tv channel that shows The Simpsons like 10 times a day!). but my March favourites? mmm, some thrift shop finds which I will share in my next post actually 😉

    1. Dude, we're like cosmic sisters or something! 😀 I've read Richard Dawkins too, he's pretty darn good, although his book "The God delusion" was a huge disappointment.
And yes, that's Kitano! 😀 I just discovered him and I'm officially addicted to all of his movies *_*

  7. I think it's so awesome that you're learning Japanese! It tops my list of places I want to visit. I finally got myself together enough to send you off a little package today. Hope it gets to you and hope it doesn't take forever!

  8. What boredom? I loved this post, its an insight into your interests, i LOVE your kitty..WOW i've heard Japanese is really hard..i am going to try watch this movie with subtitles, hope things are not lost in translation x

  9. I haven't read that book by Carl Sagan yet, will be getting it though ASAP. I have so many books on the list that I want to read and never enough time. But wait a minute though, are you telling me you don't believe in aliens and the evil reptilian race that been torturing us for ions? 😀
I highly recommend reading William Bramley's The Gods Of Eden. It will blow your mind.
